The local bookstore is not the usual hangout for high school kids on a Friday night. This Friday night will be a different story.
In the first of a series of Friday Night Coffee Houses, the Pencader music department will host an event at Border’s bookstore on Churchman’s Road near the Christiana Mall. The event will take place from 7-9 pm and there is no cost.
Pencader student musicians will perform original songs, holiday numbers, and jazz standards on guitar, piano, saxophone, and trumpet, and there will also be vocal performances.
“The purpose of the coffee house is to raise money for the school and to provide students with experience of performance,” said Pencader music teacher Paul Gray. “My students and I hope that a lot of people will come to our event.”
All are welcome to attend and even sing or perform. Interested performers should see Mr. Gray in room 105 of the school’s main building. Music must be appropriate for the audience and should not include foul language or obscene content.
The second Friday Night Coffee House will be held on January 15 in the school cafeteria from 7 to 10 pm. The admission fee for that event will be $5, which will go toward the school. Drinks and snacks will be sold by the school’s chapter of Business Professionals of America.

Why does the BPA have to be the only one allowed to really fundraise around this wonderful school?

Mister, your statement is invalid.
1) The most recent bake sale was fundraised by the National Honor Society.
2) Last Friday’s Slam-A-Pie day was fundraised by the junior/senior class.
3)The coffee house mentioned above was fundraised by the music department, though no money was collected for the school itself.
That’s all I can think of, off the top of my head.
Daras is the head of fundraising, just so any other organizations/clubs want to fundraise. It would make sense for you to make that statement, assuming you don’t attend, and/or aren’t involved with Pencader, having only read this article.
