Every year, a privileged set of students are invited to join the National Honor Society of Pencader Charter High School.
In April of this year, 36 students who contribute to their community and have a grade point average of 90% or higher were inducted into this group.
Before the new sophomores and juniors were inducted, the current Pencader NHS seniors were honored in a ceremony. The seniors were presented with a rose while English teacher Valerie Green introduced them to the audience and announced the college that each will be attending.
Helen Rana, president of Pencader’s NHS, started the induction with a candle-lighting ceremony. Five candles were lit, one for each of the NHS principles: knowledge, scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Candidates then recited the chapter pledge and were called up to sign the registry and receive their membership card and pin.
Inducted into Pencader’s National Honor Society this year were: Robert Bovell, Jessica Caraballo, Jhoselyn Castro, Ryan Cheng, Brittany DiFilippo, Rachel Drake, Reese Eskridge, Joey Genfi, Brittani Hill, Brooke Hite, Benjamin Hodesblatt, Elandya Howell, Qiang Hui Lu (Joan), Rebecca Inerfield, Bhargavi Janaki, Elefteria Karavasilis, Thomas Krauss, Diana Lau, Kelvin Lesene, Emily Liu, Alex Mark, Jake McCusker, Tiana McKim, Maurisa Morris, Rickesha Morris, Charlotte Nyambura, Nana Otchere-Addo, Naeisha Palmer, Nilima Patel, Samuel Rambo, Mirna Rezkalla, Ebenezer Riverson, Antarpreet Sandhu, John Stott, Tyler Wallace, and Brianna Williams.
“The induction ceremony turned out to be a huge success,” said Debbie Thompson, vice president of Pencader’s NHS. “It was a really meaningful ceremony and a great way to welcome everybody.”
